Western Michigan student steals computer from behind bars
Western Michigan University's student attempted to steal a computer from the Kalamazoo County jail while serving his sentenceLauren Smith
A sophomore student from Western Michigan University reportedly stole one of the Kalamazoo County jail’s computers where he was currently serving time for another crime, according to the Associated Press.
The student, William K. Bradley, has received an additional sentence for attempting to steal the computer from the Kalamazoo jailhouse.
On Monday, Bradley’s judge, Gary Giguere Jr. called the absurd crime “the dumbest crime I’ve heard today” as well as possibly being “in the top half-dozen” of his career.
The 25-year-old WMU student has now been convicted for six different felonies and four misdemeanors. Bradley agrees with the Kalamazoo County Circuit Judge in his assessment, admitting he is “not the best criminal.”
Bradley’s plea for home arrest while continuing his counseling visits to help him control his thievery did not satisfy Giguere, who sentenced him to six more months behind bars. He has been dealing with the temptation of stealing ever since he was a kid, despite apparently needing the item he was robbing.
Judge Giguere advised Bradley to “get a handle on this theft thing,” adding, “Your life of crime is not working out.”
According to the jail administrator Lt. Gail Sampsell, Bradley committed the incompetent jail theft on January 3st1, by stealing the newly delivered computer and concealing it with a garbage bag. He then, hid the bag behind a few bins to retrieve later.
Sampsell said that he must have forgotten about the jail’s multiple security cameras because he was starring center-screen on one of the cameras committing the “dumb” crime.
The witty Judge Giguere didn’t know quite what to do with Bradley as he continued his criminal activity within the jailhouse where he was to be sentenced once more.
Bradley’s official sentence was for larceny in a building, and he will be paying for court costs and state fees as well as serving jail time.
Regardless of the repetitive crime by Bradley, he is currently holding on to his sophomore status at WMU and is concentrating on studying psychology and chemistry, according to the university’s spokeswoman Cheryl Roland, who spoke to the Kalamazoo Gazette

Stealing from the jailhouse…not many people would think to do such a thing. While I’m not sure William K. Bradley is the brightest crayon in the box, it seems obvious he is thinking outside of it. It’s good to see he is seeking counseling treatment to help him deal with his habit of stealing.
I wonder what some of the other dumb crimes are that rank among Judge Giguere’s list!
I wonder when a college student will hack the Goverment!
